Great Games
The circumstances.Whether solved or not, make sure the criminal is punished for his/her crime. However, don't hand out any punishment without giving clues and letting the other players know what it is about. The room has to look like it is a crime scene and needs some serious forensics and the killer has to get exposed. Once you have played the game (the players refused to give clues), sit down, absorb what yourrier's and let everyone hold their breath.

For each question (!) you give, players have to answer the following. A theme based question works better (are you or your character the murderer?) A yes or no question can be assumed to mean either a yes or no answer unless someone deliberately leaves out a yes. The twist may not be a surprise as it follows the murder mystery itself and in the end it may be a big surprise or you secretly play one of 'the underlings' at the party and the twist could result in something you shouldn't have expected. Lastly, be sure to have some fun with the twist while it is in the game and allow everyone to create theories. If the twist goes well, it is a good sign that you are on your way to great writing. If it doesn't, then give it more time and try again with some more clues.

Play with it again. During the event, write down all the theories you have about the murder and who did it, who was the murderer, the motives and moments that you know that would be key to solving the mystery. Write down all your theories and make sure you don't miss anything.
Pick an hour after the party to write down all your theories.
By trying this game you will learn a lot about your guests and yourself. It is also a good way to ease tension. One more way to help the mystery build is to have your guests take it in turns to be the suspect. This allows you to throw off some established theories and let the theory-tale-teller take over, what will be a real in the end.
